Wyrcan offers quality hand bookbinding and book restoration services.
I restore damaged or worn books, and I create new, unique books and albums for special purposes. Using the art of traditional hand bookbinding, I make sure each work combines visual beauty and practical function.
Maybe you have an old family bible in need of some tender care, or a much-loved but slightly battered children’s book that has been enjoyed by several generations? Perhaps you have a book you have inherited from your grandparents – a diary or a recipe book? Or maybe you have a book that means something to you that was damaged in the earthquakes?
Come and see me at my studio and bring your precious book with you – I can give you a free examination and quote. Some books may only require a small amount of work to fix, which would mean that you, your children, even your grandchildren, can continue to enjoy them in future.
Maybe you want a unique wedding album, a baby album, or personally designed note books and journals. I have a design background and I can help you create something special, in either a modern or a traditional style. I already work with artists and designers for professional presentation, and limited edition artists’ books.
I also have a range of unique gifts made from high quality hand-made paper, silk, cotton, hemp, and leather – journals, albums, little boxes, paper jewelry, greeting cards and paper art. [Nothing at Wrycan is mass-produced and I don’t do machine binding]
My name is Jan – call me to talk about what you require and to make an appointment to visit Wrycan. Phone: 0212985171
Wrycan is the Old English word for ‘work’. I wanted the name of my studio to speak about the art of hand bookbinding and traditional materials that have been used by both Western and Eastern cultures for hundreds of years.
